Child Airlifted To Trauma Center After Getting Pinned Under ATV Near Brentwood

BRENTWOOD (CBS SF) -- A child was airlifted to a trauma center after being pinned under a six-wheel all-terrain vehicle near Brentwood on Monday, a fire official said Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to a report of an ATV that had crashed around 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of Fischer Avenue and Eden Plains Road, said East Contra Costa Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Jake Gonzalez.

Gonzalez said a boy, who is between the ages of 8 and 11, was driving the ATV in a rural area along an asphalt roadway when he lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle rolled over on the driver's side, ejecting the boy and pinning him under the vehicle.

He was flown to the University of California at Davis Medical Center with injuries to his pelvis, Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez said the California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash, but he said the boy was not wearing his seatbelt.
