Central Valley Citrus Farmers Fend Off Frost Despite Freezing Temperatures
FRESNO (CBS SF) -- Despite the recent cold temperatures falling below freezing, citrus farmers in the Central Valley say they've managed to save their crops.
Farmers spent four nights a week running water, wind machines, and burning peach pits this week to fend off the frost.
"If we have to do battle with mother nature, we do it with her and see how it comes out," Fresno citrus grower Keith Nilmeier said.
It costs each farmer about $5,000-a night to defend against the freezing temperatures.
