Two Carjacking Suspects Arrested After High-Speed Pursuit From San Jose To Sunnyvale
SUNNYVALE (CBS SF) -- Two carjacking suspects who led police on a high-speed chase from San Jose to Sunnyvale have been arrested Thursday morning.
Shortly after midnight, two armed men carjacked a Cadillac Escalade in east San Jose at the corner of Tully Road and Lucretia Ave.
Officers chased the men for 20 miles from Highway 280 to Highway 85 where the suspects then fled on foot near Fremont Ave. in Sunnyvale.
A K9 unit led police to an underground pipe about 1,000 feet long at the end of a street near Mountain View High School. Police believed one of the suspects was hiding in the drainage pipe that runs under Highway 85.
Police shot teargas inside, but it turned out to be empty.
At about 6:30 a.m., a woman called 911 saying she saw a man jumping a fence with something in his hand near Ticonderoga Dr. and Bernardo Way in Sunnyvale.
Public safety officials said shortly before 7:15 a.m. that the suspects were taken into custody after a police German Shepherd dog bit both of them near Remington Court.
"They were given a variety of verbal commands to comply," said San Jose Police Lt. Chris Monahan. "As a result the K9s were used to take them into custody."
The victim of the carjacking was not injured.
No other suspects in the case remain at large, according to the department.
