Woman Severely Injured When Car Crashes Into Castro Valley Optometry Office

CASTRO VALLEY (CBS SF) -- A 55-year-old woman suffered major injuries Friday morning when she crashed her car into a Castro Valley eye clinic, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Around 7:05 a.m., the woman was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry, heading south on Lake Chabot Road, at Castro Valley Boulevard, when she struck a signal pole, according to the CHP.

The crash caused the vehicle to travel across Castro Valley Boulevard, overturn, and strike the eye clinic building, CHP officials said.

The crash caused damage to the front of the building, located at 2687 Castro Valley Blvd. The building houses Primary Eyecare Optometrics, an optometry clinic.

When CHP officers arrived, officers found the woman trapped inside the upside-down vehicle.

Once officers were able to extract the victim from the vehicle, emergency crews transported the woman to Eden Medical Center, according to the CHP.

No other persons or vehicles were involved in the crash.

Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors in the crash, CHP officials said.

PG&E officials responded to the scene as well, but determined the building's gas and electric utilities had not been impacted, according to PG&E officials.
