Caltrans Blows Up Huge Boulder Blocking Highway Near Lake Tahoe
KYBURZ (CBS SF) -- Caltrans used explosives Wednesday to break up a boulder that was blocking traffic on Highway 50 near Kyburz after falling onto the roadway.
The boulder fell into traffic Wednesday afternoon.
After the explosives were detonated around 4:30 p.m., the boulder split into at least two pieces, with one larger chunk falling further into the road.
There was no estimated time when the road would reopen completely, but limited traffic was passing through the area shortly after the detonation.
