Cyclist Dies After Collision With Caltrain Near San Jose Diridon Station

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – A man on a bicycle who was hit by a train Friday morning in San Jose has died, Caltrain officials said.

At about 8 a.m. northbound Caltrain No. 329 hit a man at the West Virginia Street railroad crossing. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, Caltrain spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said.

Transit police confirmed at 9:25 a.m. that the 54-year-old male bicyclist has died from his injuries. Transit police are still investigating the early morning strike.

Further information regarding the bicyclist's identity of the  will come from the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office, transit officials said.

Train No. 329 has about 300 passengers on board. The train is being moved to the Diridon station where passengers will be able to get on another train to continue their trip north.

This is Caltrain's eighth fatality of 2016.
