Caltrain Service Briefly Disrupted After Train Strikes Woman In Palo Alto
PALO ALTO (CBS SF) -- Service resumed Friday afternoon after a Caltrain struck a woman on the tracks in Palo Alto, transit agency officials said.
Northbound Caltrain No. 155 struck a pedestrian on the tracks near Palo Alto Avenue around 3 p.m., Caltrain spokesperson Jayme Ackemann said.
A woman in her 20s was hit and transported to Stanford Hospital but information on the severity of her injuries or condition wasn't immediately available, Ackemann said.
Trains were initially stopped from traveling near the collision area but were allowed back on the tracks around 3:50 p.m., Ackemann said.
The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office transit police bureau is investigating the incident, she said.
Train No. 155 carried 265 passengers who didn't report any injuries, Ackemann said.
The involved train has been released to the Palo Alto station where passengers were dropped off, agency officials said.
The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority provided a bus bridge for passengers during the service disruption, Ackemann said.
The bus bridge has been canceled and passengers should expect residual delays, she said.
