Caltrain Strikes, Kills Man In Atherton

ATHERTON (CBS SF) -- A man was struck and killed by a train near the Atherton Caltrain station early Saturday morning, an agency spokeswoman said.

The man was on the tracks just north of Fair Oaks Lane near the station around 1:20 a.m. when he was hit by southbound train No. 198, Caltrain spokesman Jayme Ackeman said in an email.

The victim's identity has not been released.

The train involved in the deadly collision was the last train of the night. It was delayed for more than an hour, Ackeman said.

The incident is the third Caltrain fatality this year, the spokeswoman said.

The last fatality occurred on Jan. 31 when a woman was struck at Caltrain's Redwood City Station.
