Californians Appear To Uphold Ban On Plastic Bags

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Early voting results show Californians appear to be upholding the current ban on plastic bags and withholding their support for a separate measure that would redirect a 10-cent carryout bag charge away from grocers.

As of 10:10 p.m. PST, Proposition 67, which would uphold the state's ban on single-use plastic bans had 52 percent 'yes' votes and 48 percent 'no' votes.

Proposition 65, which would redirect the 10-cent carryout bag fee away from grocers, had 56 percent 'no' votes and 44 percent 'yes' votes, as of 10:10 p.m. PST on Tuesday.

The early election results are based on the 27 percent of precincts in the state that have reported their votes.
