California State Senators Move To Prohibit Cooperation With NSA
SACRAMENTO (KCBS) — Reports of the National Security Agency (NSA) collecting data on millions of Americans has spurred one the first bills of the year in the California Legislature.
The bill, introduced by State Senator Ted Lieu, a Southern California Democrat, would specifically prohibit state agencies from assisting the NSA with spy activities.
He said it's important for states to act now, "since their president and Congress have yet to rein in the NSA. I think it's important for states to assert their rights and to make their views known and to take steps to protect our citizens."
The bill is co-authored by Republican State Senator Joel Anderson of San Diego.
