California State Parks Offer Free Passes On Black Friday
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – More than one hundred California State Parks are handing out free parking passes on Black Friday, encouraging people to break a sweat rather than break out a credit card.
"A lot of people don't make the distinction whether it's a county, regional or state park. So that's why we encourage people to visit our state parks, but overall we want them to enjoy the outdoors," said parks spokeswoman Gloria Sandoval told KCBS. "Here in the Bay Area there is Mount Tam, Mount Diablo."
Most of the Bay Area parks have sold out for the day including Tam and Diablo.
As of early Friday morning, Benicia State Recreational Area was available, as was Clear Lake State Park and Folsom Lake Recreational Area. Information at can be found at greenfriday.org.
Another part of the Green Friday movement involves retailers closing or in this case giving away the profits.
"CEO Rose Marcario wrote on their company's blog that Patagonia will take the profits from all sales on Black Friday and donate them to grassroots organizations," said Shep Hyken an author and expert on customer service.
