California Man Accused Of Transporting Over 200 Pounds Of Weed In Arizona

KINGMAN (CBS SF/AP) - Authorities in northwestern Arizona say a California man is in custody after the discovery of more than 200 pounds of marijuana in his rental car.

Kingman police say 63-year-old Charles Stiles Defay, of Point Arena, has been booked into the Mohave County jail on suspicion of transportation of marijuana for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police say detectives were conducting a drug enforcement operation along Interstate 40 in the Kingman area on Thursday morning.

They say Defay was driving a rental car that was stopped for a traffic violation.

A police dog smelled the presence of drugs and 202 pounds of marijuana was found in 143 individual bags.

Police say the estimated value of the marijuana is about $808,000.

It was unclear Thursday if Defay has a lawyer yet.
