California Lawmakers Flip-Flopping In Favor Of Climate Change Efforts
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- California's effort to halt climate change is winning hearts and minds, among Assembly Democrats who'd previously opposed it.
In 2006, the state set a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020.
Now, the Assembly has passed a bill that extends the effort by ten years - and sets a NEW goal of reducing emissions to forty percent BELOW 1990 levels by 2030.
Supporters say this would help further define California's role as a leader in combating climate change. Opponents are worried about its impact on gas prices and the economy.
The bill now goes back to the Senate.
