Cable Car Service In San Francisco Suspended 'Indefinitely' Due To Storm
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — Cable car service in San Francisco has been suspended indefinitely due to the severity of Tuesday's storm, a transportation official said.
Paul Rose, spokesman for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency told KCBS that the decision to suspend service is a precautionary move in order to ensure safety for Muni riders and the drivers on the city's streets.
Rose said that the cable car system sees decreased ridership during rain as it is and with the cars using an older braking system, it was decided to be the best course of action.

"On a normal day, we want to make sure there's enough clearance between cars on the road and cable cars because of their hundred plus-year-old braking system." Rose said.
The SFMTA will continue to monitor weather conditions but as of now, there is no set timetable to restart operations.
