Daycare Workers Must Be Vaccinated Under New California Law

SACRAMENTO (CBS SF) -- A new law signed by Governor Brown this week requires all daycare workers to be vaccinated.

As of September 1, 2016, anyone who works or volunteers at a daycare center or family day care home must be immunized against influenza, pertussis, and measles. New hires must present proof of a current tuberculosis test, as well.

Contrary to the existing law, there are no exemptions based on personal beliefs, but certain conditions with a doctor's note such as medical safety, or weak immune systems would exempt some individuals from the requirement.

The law known as AB 792 was authored by state Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia).
