Bullets Narrowly Miss CHP Officers During Traffic Stop In San Jose

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A traffic stop went from routine to dangerous Thursday night after bullets flew on a San Jose freeway and one hit a California Highway Patrol cruiser.

The shooting occurred at 11:36 p.m. on northbound U.S. Highway 101 near Tully Road.

There were two CHP officers with the vehicle when the shooting occurred. One bullet struck the vehicle, but the officers were not injured.

Police say they don't know where or from what direction the bullet came from, and whether it was a targeted attack. The shooting suspects were never located.

The freeway was briefly shutdown as law enforcement officials investigated the shooting.
