Buildings In Mountain View Neighborhood Evacuated Due To Smell Of Gas

MOUNTAIN VIEW (CBS SF) -- Mountain View police and fire are investigating a possible hazardous materials incident at 2025 California St. Wednesday night, a fire spokesman said.

The incident was reported shortly after 6 p.m., Mountain View fires spokesman Lynn Brown said.

Due to a strong smell of gas in the area, apartment buildings at 2017 and 2025 California St. have been evacuated and people in the area are advised to shelter in place, according to police.

"It smells like a rotten egg," Brown said.

Evacuees are advised to go to the community center at 201 S. Rengstorff Ave. where they can seek assistance from the American Red Cross, police said.
