2-Alarm Brush Fire Burns Several Acres Near Kelley Park In San Jose

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A two-alarm brush fire burned between 3 and 5 acres near Kelley Park in San Jose Friday afternoon, a fire captain said.

Firefighters responded at 3:46 p.m. to a report of a fire near Coyote Creek in the area of Roberts Avenue and Derbe Drive, fire Capt. Peter Caponio said.

Roughly 50 firefighters responded to the scene and Caponio said fire crews were able to get the blaze under control within roughly an hour.

As of around 9 p.m., Caponio said some firefighters remained in the area to ensure that the fire was completely extinguished.

It's not uncommon to see fires near the creek because it's surrounded by trees and brush and the area is well traveled, Caponio said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.

No structures were threatened and Caponio said no injuries were reported.
