UPDATE: Broiler Fire Burns 80 Acres Near Redwood Valley In Mendocino County, Evacuations Lifted
MENDOCINO COUNTY (CBS SF) – A wildfire that broke out in Mendocino County north of Ukiah Wednesday afternoon has burned 80 acres prompted nearby residents to evacuate for several hours, according to authorities.
According to Cal Fire, the Broiler Fire broke out Wednesday afternoon at around 2:44 p.m. in the area of Uva Drive and Finne Road southwest of Redwood Valley. Within two hours, it had burned about 50 acres with no containment.
As of shortly after 7 p.m., Cal Fire said the fire had grown to 80 acres and was 20% contained.

Cal Fire confirmed that the fire destroyed at least one structure and had threatened 80 others. A photographer for the Santa Rosa Press Democrat was on the scene of the destroyed structure.

An evacuation order was issued south of Uva Place from Highway 101 to Linnex Drive and south on Uva Drive and Uva Drive south to Central Avenue to the Highway 101 off-ramp. An evacuation shelter was initially set up at the Mendocino College Gymnasium at 1000 Hensley Creek Road, but was later moved to the dance studio on the college campus.
The sheriff's office also provided information regarding limited shelter for animals being provided by the Ukiah Animal Shelter.

The Ukiah Animal Shelter will have staff on site (298 Plant Road, Ukiah, CA) at 7:00 p.m. to assist with overnight boarding for dogs & cats. They can only take in about 20 dogs, 20 cats and about 6 horses. More might be available tomorrow.
Around 8:20 p.m. the sheriff's office announced most evacuation orders were lifted, except for the burn areas of West School Way at Uva Drive and Uva Drive at Forsythe Lane due to mop up activities. Most road closures in the area were also being lifted.

Re-population is occurring in the area of the Broiler Fire evacuation zone at this time except for the burn areas of West School Way at Uva Drive and Uva Drive at Forsythe Lane due to fire mop up activities.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
