Man Shot By Concord Movie Theater Guard Identified

CONCORD (CBS SF) – A man shot and wounded by a movie theater security guard in Concord on Sunday evening has been identified by police as 25-year-old Anthony Countee of Richmond.

Countee, 25, was allegedly intoxicated and making threats prior to the shooting, which was reported at 6:48 p.m. at the Brenden Concord 14 movie theater on Willow Pass Road, according to police.

He allegedly walked into the theater without buying a ticket and headed into the lower-level snack bar area, police spokesman Lt. Nicholas Gartner said.

When a security guard with Custom Protective Services asked to see Countee's ticket, he became confrontational and told the security guard he had a gun and would shoot him, police said.

The security guard, whose name was not released, pointed his gun at Countee and told him to lay on the floor so he could be placed under arrest.

Countee then ran out of the theater with the security guard chasing him. The guard shot him multiple times when he allegedly reached for his waistband, police said.

Countee, who was not armed, was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive. He was arrested on suspicion of making felony threats, police said.
The security guard, who was cooperative, was questioned and released by investigators, according to police.

The theater was locked down and surrounding streets were closed during the investigation to allow officers to make sure there weren't other suspects in or around the theater, police said.

Anyone with additional information about the case can call Concord police Detective Kevin Giacoletto at (925) 671-3030.
