Boy Catapulted Across Bedroom When Truck Slams Into Santa Rosa Home

SANTA ROSA (CBS/AP) — Authorities say an 11-year-old Sonoma County boy is lucky to be alive after a pickup crashed into his bedroom, split his bed in half and catapulted him across the room and through a closet door.

The Press Democrat newspaper says Liam Fitzsimmons was sleeping in his Santa Rosa home at 4 a.m. Monday when the truck barreled through the wall.

The 11-year-old, who was not badly injured, tells the newspaper he remembers waking up in his closet amid crumbled plaster and wood.

The driver ran away but was arrested several hours later in Novato.

Police say 23-year-old Timothy Charles Bendana could face charges including hit-and-run with injury, possession of marijuana and running a hash lab.

It's not immediately known if he has a lawyer.
