Both Directions Of Highway 85 Reopened In Cupertino After Downed Power Lines Snarled Traffic

CUPERTINO (KCBS) — Downed power lines have caused a complete closure of a section Highway 280 in Cupertino Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident near Homestead Road was reported just before 6 a.m. and a member of a Sunnyvale fire crew told KCBS that a blown transformer may have caused the lines to collapse and then catch fire.

 

Traffic is being diverted off the highway as crews were working to remove the power lines.

UPDATE: At of 7:45 a.m. the CHP said that crew were able to tire off the wires and reopened traffic in both directions
