Body Found At San Jose Recycling Center

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Police in San Jose were investigating the discovery of a body at a recycling center Wednesday morning.

Police responded to Newby Island Resource Recovery Park (NIRRP), located on the 1600 block of Dixon Landing Road, at around 7:30 a.m., authorities said.

The call reported the discovery of a body that was found inside a container. Authorities have not specified exactly what kind of container it was.

While the Newby Island address for the facility says Milpitas, technically it is in San Jose's jurisdiction.

The Santa Clara County coroner was called to the scene. So far, police have not classified the case as a homicide.

Republic Services, the company that operates the facility, told KPIX 5 they have turned that part of the site over to San Jose police and are cooperating fully.

The recycling facility is huge, but the scene is in a small corner on the southeastern part of the property. While that corner is shut down for the investigation, the Recovery Park is still open and processing materials.

According to the company's website, "NIRRP is the most advanced recycling facility in the world."
