Still Looking For A Place To Stay? Boat Rentals Score Big Savings For Super Bowl Visitors

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Still need a place to stay for Super Bowl 50? How about a boat?

As tens of thousands of visitors descend on the Bay Area for the Big Game, it has created a huge lodging crunch for hotel rooms and other places to stay.

A website launched last year called 'Sleep Aboard' on GetMyBoat.com is the Airbnb of boat rentals.

For example, one listing that's booked solid for the week is a 2000 square foot converted trawler in the Emeryville Marina. It has with 3 bedrooms and a hot tub.

Owner Kira Maixner says boats are a unique alternative for Super Bowl 50.

"It's a completely different experience," she says. "Instead of sleeping in a hotel you can stay on the water.

With more than 1000 boats offered on the site, it's the world's largest boat rental marketplace.

Maixner says like everything else in the Bay Area, boat rental prices have gone up because of Super Bowl. Still, they're a lot cheaper than hotels.

"Some go for $50 a day... all the way up to a luxury yacht for $500," said Maixner.

That's a steal when you consider the average price of a hotel room during Super Bowl week is about $900 a night.
