Bird Strike Forces Denver-Bound Flight To Return After Leaving Sacramento Airport

SACRAMENTO (KCBS) — A possible bird strike forced the emergency landing of a United Airlines flight bound for Denver early Friday morning in Sacramento.

United Airlines Flight 1596 departed from the Sacramento International Airport at about 5:45 a.m.

Fire officials said that at about seven miles out, a bird strike occurred while the plane was ascending.

Passengers told KCRA in Sacramento that the Boeing 737 continued to climb as the situation was being assessed.

The plane circled for about 20 minutes and then returned to the airport landing safely back at about 6:20 a.m.

There were no injuries reported no information about the extent of the damage to the plane has been released.
