Binge-Watching Helping Keep People On Netflix Average Of 2 Hours A Day

LOS GATOS (KCBS) -- The average Netflix users spend two hours a day streaming the service, according to a research group.

BTIG Research says that's an 18-minute increase from BTIG's last survey, and the two hour mark is a key milestone in Netflix's move to grab viewers away from the networks, where the average American spends five hours watching TV.

According to BTIG's survey, Netflix would be the fourth largest network in the U.S. by viewing hours at 2.4-billion per month, compared to 1.2 billion at the end of 2013.

The impressive thing for Netflix is that it doesn't benefit from sports or news content, something that's key for the networks.

It's believed the practice of binge-wathching multiple episodes and account sharing are major factors in arriving at the two-hour average.

Netflix shares have soared to an all-time high at more than $570 thanks to its earnings report and subscriber growth.
