Beverly Hills Water Wasters Get The Message After City Sends Warning Letters

BEVERLY HILLS (KCBS) -- A crackdown on excessive water use in Beverly Hills seems to have finally gotten the message across, even to the rich and famous.

Water usage dropped 26 percent in January after officials sent warnings to dozens of residents using too much.

The city had tried, and failed with other methods of trying to reduce usage during the state's historic drought.

"The city has worked hard over the course of this year to meet our goal. We haven't met it yet," Beverly Hills Mayor Julian Gold said.

That goal is a 32 percent reduction in water use.
