Benicia Popcorn Factory Shut Down For Weeks Over Mice Infestation

BENICIA (KPIX 5) -- A Bay Area popcorn factory had to shut down due to a mouse infestation that may be caused by recent El Nino storms.

Kettlepop General Manager Aaron Reimer told KPIX 5 the mice first showed up in the Benicia factory where they make and bag organic popcorn a few weeks ago.

For weeks, the mice have been spotted in the equipment, and alongside the popcorn's raw materials.

"We've been shut down for two weeks, so we have not been producing anything. Anything that was produced in the facility was destroyed," Reimer said.

The company hired pest control experts to take care of the problem, but the mice keep showing up.

"Safety's always our first priority, and nothing will be leaving this facility that has any question whatsoever of food safety," Reimer said.
