'Beer Money' Host's Journey Fueled By Love And Hope

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS-SF) – As Mike Nelson rides across America, his thoughts often drift off to his wife's beautiful smile.

Nelson, the host of KPIX's 'Beer Money,' is in the midst of a cross-country motorcycle journey filled with love, hope and resolve inspired by his wife Christi's battle with breast cancer.

Christi was diagnosed with cancer in Sept. 2013 and underwent rounds of chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. The couple thought they had beaten the disease, but in April another scan revealed that the cancer had returned.

Mike says the diagnosis was "a punch in the gut."

But it was also a call to action.

Wearing a pink cape, Nelson has embarked on a ride from San Francisco to New York City aboard a pink motorcycle bearing the names of those whose lives have been touched by cancer.

The journey and the stops along the way will raise awareness of the disease and also raise funds to aid in the fight against cancer.

So far, Nelson has raised nearly $13,000 on his donation page

When asked what is fueling his journey, Nelson replied: "I am in awe of my wife and her determination and sense of humor through it all."
