Update: 2 dead at Bean Hollow State Beach near Pescadero following collision, submerged vehicles
PESCADERO, San Mateo County -- Two people are dead following a collision near Bean Hollow Road in San Mateo County on Tuesday evening, a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol said.
CHP investigators they began receiving calls at approximately 6:39 p.m. reporting a crash. Upon arrival officers discovered that a Subaru was traveling northbound on Highway 1, just north of Bean Hollow Road, and a 2022 Tesla was traveling southbound.
It appears that one of the vehicles crossed over the double yellow lines and sideswiped the other vehicle. Both drivers lost control of their vehicle allowing their vehicles to travel off the east side of the roadway, down an embankment and into a body of water.

The Tesla was completely submerged under water and the Subaru was partially submerged. Both drivers sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Subaru passenger was transported to Stanford Hospital via a CHP helicopter with major injuries.
It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash.
