Be Prepared To Pay $888 Before Eating At San Francisco's Most Expensive Restaurant
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Saison, San Francisco's most expensive restaurant, is now on the growing list of Bay Area venues requiring guests to pay for dinner in full before ever stepping foot inside.
Using the payment system Square, guests will have to shell out $888 per person to reserve a spot at the three-Michelin-starred restaurant. A screenshot Eater SF published of Square offering (currently not active) shows the meal price comes down to $398 for food, $298 for beverages and a $192 service charge.
Eater SF reports that Saison, owned by famed chef Joshua Skenes, appears to be the first major restaurant to adopt the Square system. Jack Dorsey, the founder of Square, also happens to be an investor in Saison.
The reservation covers the "Chef's Counter" meals, which happen at 7 p.m. Thursdays through Sunday, in addition to more traditional dinners available Tuesday through Saturday starting at 5:30 p.m.
Saison is among the Bay Area restaurants adding a service charge to be distributed among staffers instead of the traditional option of tipping servers, although diners can still tip their servers if they desire.
Last year, two Michelin-starred Coi tried another version online ticketing system known as Tock to help manage pre-paid reservations. Napa Valley's The French Laundry also has plans to join Tock in the near future.
