BBQ's, Meat Smokers Could Be Banned On Spare-The-Air Days
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Bay Area air quality officials are considering a crackdown on smoke from barbecues and meat smokers.
Spare the air days usually mean residents aren't supposed to burn wood in their fireplaces, but smoke from wood-burning cookers have caused so many complaints that the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to consider adding them to the ban.
"We're going to be having more public meetings to get more public engagement to reexamine the rule in that way," Walter Wallace of BAAQMD said.
The possibility of more restrictions wasn't sitting well with some residents.
"It's America; we can make our own choices. We can be responsible without someone forcing it on us and telling us how to live," Tina Whittington of Walnut Creek said.
