Study: Bay Area Has Worst Roads In Nation, And It's Costing Drivers Big Bucks
(CBS SF) -- Your bumpy Bay Area commute may take you across the worst roads in the country.
A new report finds San Francisco and Oakland as having the worst roads in the nation compared to other large cities.
Los Angeles came in second, followed by Concord and San Jose at number five.
The study by TRIP, a Washington D.C.-based transportation research and advocacy group, found that more than a quarter of the nation's major urban roadways are in poor condition.
The report looked at the level of smoothness on the nation's major roads and the costs to motorists of driving on roads that have surfaces in poor condition.
The study found bad roads can cost drivers in the Bay Area as much as $1,000 a year.
