Bay Area Woman Among 4 California Rhodes Scholarship Winners

LOS ALTOS (AP) -- Four people with California ties have won prestigious Rhodes Scholarships, and with it the chance to attend Oxford University for a few years.

Nationally, 32 winners were announced early Sunday from a pool of 882 applicants who had been nominated by their universities.

The scholarships cover all expenses for post-graduate studies at the distinguished English university, starting next October.

Three current undergraduates—one from the San Francisco Bay Area, and one each from Los Angeles and Orange counties—joined a recent University of Southern California alumnus in winning the award.

The winners include: Alexis Doyle of Los Altos, a University of Notre Dame senior; Nicole Mihelson of Fullerton, who graduates from Johns Hopkins University in December; and Caylin Moore of Carson, who attends Texas Christian University.
