Bay Area Super Bowl Organizers In NYC, NJ To Learn Lessons For 2016 Game

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— With festivities for the Super Bowl ramping up in New York, the Bay Area group organizing Super Bowl L in 2016 are in The Big Apple this week to watch and learn about logistics for the event.

The geographic parallels are clear between this Sunday's game and the one that will take place at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara two years from now.

Super Bowl L will be nothing like Super Bowl XIX, which was held at the old Stanford Stadium in 1985. There will be a week of parties, networking and press conferences leading up to the big game.

Much of this year's festivities are taking place in Manhattan, while the game will be played in nearby New Jersey. In 2016, a similar situation will take place with the game being played in Santa Clara but much of the partying will be in San Francisco.

Keith Bruce is CEO of the San Francisco Bay Area Super Bowl Host Committee. He and a team are in New York to see how the logistics play out.

"We're excited to see what the Super Bowl Boulevard is about. There's a lot of activities and events throughout the next three or four days. We attended the media day out in New Jersey. There are things the NFL will be producing that are the first of its kind. The institutional learning and seeing the finished productions of these events is usually valuable," Bruce said.

Bruce said there is plenty to learn from the event, including how to factor in security, traffic and accommodations. Organizers are also looking to find ways to create buzz and excitement throughout the Bay Area in the months leading up to the game, not just the week before.
