Bay Area Residents: Reset Clocks, Check Smoke Alarms, Daylight Saving Time Begins

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Bay Area public safety officials were reminding residents to not only reset their clocks for daylight saving time, which begins early Sunday morning, but to also check smoke alarms and other emergency equipment.

At 2 a.m. Sunday, daylight saving time begins in most of the U.S. and the clock moves forward one hour.

The time change ends on Nov. 2, when clocks go back one hour.

The Belmont and San Jose fire departments were encouraging residents that while changing clocks on microwaves, ovens and other clocks around the home, people should change the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Monterey County public health officials were also reminding residents to check emergency supplies.

Health officials suggest making sure homes are supplied with three days of bottled water, non-perishable foods and any essential medications.

Pets also need supplies and safety officials remind residents to have medication and food ready for any furry family members.

While checking emergency supplies, public safety officials are urging residents to test any detectors to make sure the alarm sounds work.
