Bay Area Food Pantry Needs 1,700 Turkeys To Feed Needy

SAN JOSE (CBS/AP) -- One of the largest food pantries in Northern California needs another 1,700 turkeys this holiday season to feed the hungry.

Sacred Heart Community Service in San Jose begins feeding holiday meals to those in need on Monday.

Spokeswoman Morgan Wordes says the agency hopes to provide 4,200 families with a holiday food box.

But as of Monday, the group was still short on turkeys, though many people donated birds over the weekend, closing a previously wider gap.

Those interested in helping can visit the Sacred Heart site online, arrange a food drive through their faith community, company or service organization, or bring turkeys to the San Jose-based agency through Wednesday.
