Bay Area Firefighters Dispatched With Special Equipment To Fight SoCal Fires
The goal of California's automatic mutual aid system is to make sure that fire crews, wherever they are in the state, have the help they need to deal with disasters.
"We do our part, like everyone else tries to this time of year - for other agencies, when other parts of the state are burning, they need our help," Menlo Park Fire Protection District Chief Harold Schapelhoumen told KCBS.
The favor always gets repaid.
"Whether a number of structures are burning in Sharon Heights, or we had an aircraft into a residential neighborhood, so there's always that moment when you need help yourself," Schapelhouman said.

With two large and out-of-control wildfires burning in California, the state's mutual aid system is kicking in to attack them.
Fire crews from San Mateo County left over the weekend to help just south of Carmel, and at Camp Pendleton in San Diego County. The firefighters brought one of San Mateo's engines, which specializes in keeping flames away from homes.
