Bay Area Dog With Own 'Seeing Eye Dog' Up For Adoption In National Free Pet Adoption Day
SILICON VALLEY (CBS SF) -- Saturday and Sunday mark Maddie's Pet Adoption Days, the largest free pet adoption event in the nation, and Humane Society Silicon Valley in Milpitas hopes the event will bring a new home for an unusual pair of dogs, one partially blind, that need to be adopted as a team.
Luna and Phoebe, both small females, became fast furry friends as Luna was having an eye removed after a facial injury. Phoebe, meanwhile, was frightened and hid in her kennel. Through the experience, the two pups were kenneled together, and adapted to be incredible canine companion.
Luna, the more outgoing one, seemed to help Phoebe socialize more, while Phoebe, the more protective helped Luna navigate with a missing eye.
HSSV managers have decided they will not adopt out the animals separately -- someone has to bring home both.
Just last week, the HSSV adopted out a one-eyed cat, as pets with eye injuries are helped to a full recovery by the team of veterinarians.
Free adoptions are available from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. all weekend at many sites, including:
