Bay Area Chefs, Restaurateurs Nominated For Coveted James Beard Awards

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Two of the Bay Area's top chefs received best in the West nominations from the highly coveted James Beard Awards.

The recognitions are seen as an example of the region's red hot culinary scene.

"They say it's the Emmys or the Oscars of the food world," Matthew Accarrino of SPQR in San Francisco said.

Accarrino, along with Dominique Crenn of Atelier Crenn in San Francisco made the list of nominees for Best Chef in the West.

Michael Mina was nominated for Restauranteur of the Year for his restaurants RN74, Bourbon Steak, and others.

"Restauranteur of the Year is all about your team, and it's all about the people you're surrounded with. If you don't have a group of people around you in this business that can make all of the things happen for you, and make your dreams come true; and that's what I have," Mina said.

First prize awards will be given in Chicago in May.
