Batkid Emerges At AT&T Park To Throw Out Ceremonial First Pitch At Giants Opener

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The San Francisco Giants home opener at AT&T Park featured a special guest to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, the city's hero, Batkid.

Miles Scott, a cancer survivor who captivated the city and became an Internet sensation during his daylong escapade as the caped crusader, drove into the ballpark in the Batmobile to  thunderous cheers, emerging from the car near home plate to salute his fans.

The Batkid was accompanied by his Batman sidekick as he took the mound to throw out the first pitch to Giants pitcher Matt Cain.

AT&T Park and the Giants organization were among the groups and venues participating Miles' request through the Make-A-Wish foundation of being Batman for a day.

On November 15, 2013, the request took on a life of its own as thousands of volunteers transformed San Francisco into Gotham City for the day. Batkid went from one locale to another to participate in staged events involving The Riddler and The Penguin, later getting the keys to the city from Mayor Ed Lee and a  video tweet from President Obama.
