BART's New Oakland Airport Connector Is Down

OAKLAND (KCBS) -- BART's recently opened Oakland Airport Connector that provides service between the Coliseum Station and airport was shut down Friday morning, according to BART officials.

The elevated people mover system was shut down because of a mechanical problem related to the equipment that carries power to the track, BART spokesman Jim Allison told KCBS.

Another BART spokesperson, Alicia Trost clarified that there was debris on the tracks, likely from the powerful rain storm that is working its way through the area that started causing problems just before 10 a.m.

There's no estimate of when the problem will be repaired, he said

BART riders trying to get to the airport can currently use AC Transit line 73 to get to there. Handfuls of travelers could be seen waiting with their luggage at Coliseum Station.

BART is requesting more buses to be added to the route.

Stay tuned to KCBS for the latest details.
