BART Train Hits, Kills Person At El Cerrito Del Norte Station

EL CERRITO (CBS SF) – A Bay Area Rapid Transit train hit and killed a person at the El Cerrito del Norte station Monday morning.

The person was struck shortly before 7:30 a.m. by a Warm Springs-bound train at the station at 6400 Cutting Blvd., BART spokesman Chris Filippi said.

Around 8:45 a.m., BART announced that the person struck by the train had died. Information about the victim was not immediately available.

The incident initially prompted the closure of the El Cerrito del Norte station as well as the Richmond station. The Richmond station has since
reopened and trains were single-tracking through the El Cerrito del Norte station without stopping, Filippi said.

Alameda-Contra Costa Transit buses are providing mutual aid for riders along the affected route.
