Elderly Man Run Over By BART Train Survives Without Visible Injury
BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- A man in his 70s jumped in front of a Fremont-bound BART train in Berkeley Sunday afternoon, but survived with no visible injuries, according to a BART spokeswoman.
Witnesses told police that the man jumped in front of the train at 2:09 p.m. on track two at the downtown Berkeley station, BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said.
The fully conscious man was able to crawl out from under the train with no visible injuries and was taken to a local hospital, Trost said.
The incident caused the Berkeley station to be closed until 2:40 p.m.
Trains single-tracked around the incident and operated with delays of up to 20 minutes at the peak of the incident, but are back on a normal schedule now, Trost said.
