BART Service Returns To Normal For Morning Commute On Pittsburg/Bay Point Line
PLEASANT HILL (CBS SF) – Service for those taking Bay Area Rapid Transit on the Pittsburg/Bay Point line is back to normal Wednesday morning, as crews worked through the evening to repair a section of damaged track near the Pleasant Hill station.
A BART train was taken out of service shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday after having problems with a wheel component. BART spokesperson Alicia Trost said a part of the wheel called a flange came off the involved train next to the track, and the problem damaged not only the track, but also the electric third rail.
Current Bay Area Traffic Conditions
Service on the Pittsburg/Bay Point line was completely shut down for about an hour, before returning to limited service. Eventually, trains were single-tracked through the area for the remainder of the evening commute.
The problem left plenty of commuters upset and confused.
"Being told that the train is not going through, and now we're being told it is," said one BART rider. "We were told to get off, that there would be a shuttle, but the shuttle was sent away."
Early Wednesday morning, BART officials said enough repairs had been made to allow for full service.
