BART Shutdown By Helium Balloon That Short-Circuited Electrical Lines In East Bay
HAYWARD (CBS SF) -- BART service was stopped in both directions between Bay Fair, Hayward and Castro Valley Wednesday afternoon, after a mylar helium balloon contacted electrical lines, creating a short-circuit that cut power to 4,000 customers including BART stations and the BART tracks.

Meanwhile, there were major delays elsewhere on Bay Area Rapid Transit system after a deformity was discovered in the trackway between the Civic Center station and 16th Street station in San Francisco.
BART officials said that problem was discovered shortly after 9:30 a.m.
Police action caused and debris on the tracks caused trains to be halted in Lafayette earlier in the morning.
