BART Service Disrupted By East Bay Track Damage

PLEASANT HILL (CBS SF) -- A BART train lost part of a wheel during the middle of rush hour Tuesday near the Pleasant Hill station, leading to a frustrating afternoon commute for many East Bay commuters.

The service disruption is due to a damaged track. BART spokesperson Alicia Trost said the incident happened around 5:10 p.m.

"A train went out of service at Pleasant Hill. It somehow damaged the track in a really horrible spot; right at an interlocking at a crossover. It impacts both sides of the tracks, so we can't even single track around it. We're going to need to make quick repairs," she told KCBS.

About an hour later, limited trains were running east between the Walnut Creek and Concord stations however trains were not running in the westbound direction, according to Trost.

Trains are now running in both directions but making their way around the damaged track, she said.

Crews remained at the scene of the involved train that remains on the tracks Tuesday night and repairs may be made after BART service has ended for the day, she said.
