BART Equipment Failure In Transbay Tube Results In Day-Long Delays
OAKLAND (KCBS) — BART was experiencing major system-wide delays Friday, lasting from the morning through the afternoon commute, due to an equipment failure in the Transbay Tube.
As of the evening, trains heading into San Francisco from the East Bay continued to experience delays of about five minutes, according to officials.
BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost told KCBS that the areas between West Oakland and the Embarcadero Station in San Francisco were especially affected.
Problems began around 9:15 a.m. when a device known as the mux box, which regulates train speeds, went down.
Trost said crews were waiting until after the evening commute to continue troubleshooting inside the tube.
"Hopefully they can fix it and start service recovery but for right now, we're having to run all trains though the Transbay Tube at much reduced speed than they typically do."
Passengers are encouraged to listen to train operator announcements throughout the evening. Some trains may not be making stops in West Oakland because of repair work, according to officials.
Longer trains are expected to remain on schedule for Golden State Warriors and Oakland Athletics sporting events in Oakland for the evening.
