Update: Person on tracks killed by BART train at Bay Fair Station

SAN LEANDRO -- A person on the trackway at the BART Bay Fair Station in San Leandro was killed Wednesday afternoon after getting hit by a train.

BART initially sent an alert shortly after 12:50 p.m. about delays at the station because of person on the tracks in the area.  The station was closed in the Dublin / Pleasanton, Berryessa, Richmond and Daly City directions following the incident. 

The body of the person was recovered from under the train at the Bay Fair station platform.

AC Transit provided bus service from the station to San Leandro, Castro Valley, and Hayward stations during the closure.

As of 3:16 p.m., the Bay Fair station had reopened and BART said there were delays of 10 minutes on the Berryessa Line in the Dublin / Pleasanton, Berryessa, Richmond and Daly City directions.

There was no immediate word on the identity of the deceased person or the circumstances that led to the person being on the tracks.
