Pedestrian Death On Interstate 880 In Hayward May Have Been A Homicide

HAYWARD (KCBS) – The death of a pedestrian hit by a truck on Interstate 880 in Hayward Wednedsay is being investigated as a possible homicide, according to police.

The two right lanes on southbound 880 were closed for more than two hours after a body was found on the roadway near the Industrial Parkway overpass at about 4:35 a.m.

Hayward police Lt. Eric Krimm said the victim was apparently struck immediately and killed by a passing semi-truck after he jumped from the overpass.

There was a report that this followed some sort of verbal altercation.

"If he jumped because he was trying to evade someone who was trying to harm him, then you could have a potential homicide charge," said Lt. Krimm.

Police have not made any arrests, but they were interviewing a man nearby.

The two right lanes of southbound 880 re-opened shortly after 7:00 a.m.
